  • Valerie WebberI always wondered how long it takes to choke them into unconsciousness. If you can, always put a leash, thin rope, anything but a wide collar, as high up under the neck just under the ears to be effective. Practice this placement on your own dog, or even yourself, as it can be a life saving technique. Also, when confronted with a Pit Bull, do wrap your arms around yourself, but you also want to turn away from the Pit Bull, that simple move is a sign of submission among dogs (I know) and also gives the gripper a more difficult target to maul.

  • Jeffrey Sloan normal dogs read and respond to submission signals. On the other hand, pit bulls see submission as an invitation to disembowel the victim.

  • Valerie Webber Jeffrey, that is why I threw the "I know" in apprentices. Pit Bulls don't recognize submission as a rule, but it does help to turn away especially if it is one of the less savage of the beasts.
